Ms. Lucy Komen is a champion in food and market systems in Agriculture. With over 29 years in the agriculture sector. She has worked both in the chemical industry and policy related spaces. Komen is the Ag. CEO/Registrar of the Warehouse Receipt System Council (WRSC), in this role she oversees the development and regulation of the warehouse receipt system for agricultural commodities that enables farmers to access quality certified storage facilities under licensed warehouse operators in a bid to reduce post-harvest losses, access better prices through structured market linkages as well as access to affordable credit financing by using the warehouse receipts as alternative collateral. Her vision is to see a structured agriculture commodity trading in Kenya, moving farmers from price takers to price negotiators.
Ms. Komen previously served in the chemical industry for over 20 years on product registrations, developing markets and use areas for organic pesticides. She is passionate about food security, food safety and environmentally friendly pesticides in farming. Kenya is blessed to be a producer of a “nature’s own insecticide”. She holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Egerton University, Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a Diploma in Information Technology from Algonquin College, Canada. Lucy recently completed a program titled Making Agriculture Work for food and nutrition security from WCDI, Wageningen and completed the AMI advanced leadership program, an AGRA-sponsored program under the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA).
